Richard Haward's Oysters
Making waves With a brand evolution
Richard Haward’s Oysters is proud to have supplied some of the finest oysters in the world for over eight generations now. Since the 1700s, the Haward family have been cultivating their delicious oysters in and around the creeks of Mersea Island. With the goal of strengthening their brand, Richard Haward’s Oysters reached out to FUZE.
Working closely with the team at Richard Haward’s Oysters, we wanted to create a brand that really spoke to both the heritage of the brand but also the incredible high quality service that they provide. Ultimately, we wanted to help tell the incredible story of the Haward family and their business over the years.
The rebranding of Richard Haward’s Oysters included creating a strong brand identity and revamping their existing logo and brand guidelines.
One of the main sources of inspiration for the rebrand came from a collection of company books which dated back to 1791. Inside these books, we found handwritten notes and details about the customers and produce. Up until this point, the brand lacked a consistent font and style. The handwriting that was found in the books was incorporated into the branding to create a unique font that pays homage to the brand’s story and rich history. By updating the font, we were able to ensure that the branding is instantly recognisable.
On the front cover of the books, we found a wave pattern that we felt could be incorporated into the branding. In doing this, we were again referencing the historical findings and also making a correlation between the ripples of the River Blackwater which is hugely significant to the business.
By working closely with the team at Richard Haward’s Oysters and learning about the company’s fascinating history, we were able to freshen up the brand and develop a stronger brand identity. Our team also developed a dynamic new logo and unique font style.
