Instagram's New Grid Reorder Feature Might Be Its Best Update Yet

Instagram might have just released its best update of the year.

If you've ever spent far too long planning your feed, archived a post because it didn't fit the aesthetic, or even considered reposting something just to get it in the right place... your day has finally come.

Instagram now officially lets you manually reorder your profile grid.

That means you can move your posts around without deleting, archiving or reposting them. It's a simple update, but one that's been on people's wish lists for years.

How to Reorder Your Instagram Grid

It's really straightforward.

  1. Make sure your Instagram app is up to date.
  2. Head to your profile.
  3. Press and hold any post on your grid.
  4. Tap Reorder Grid.
  5. Drag your posts into whatever order you'd like.
  6. Tap Done and your new layout will be visible immediately.

Pinned posts will still stay fixed at the top of your profile, while the rest of your grid can be arranged however you like.

Why It Matters

At first glance, this might seem like a feature for creators who obsess over aesthetics.

But it's actually useful for anyone using Instagram professionally.

Whether you're a business, personal brand or content creator, your profile is often someone's first impression of you. Being able to highlight your best work, group similar content together or create a cleaner-looking feed gives you much more control over how your profile is presented.

It also means you can focus on posting content when it's relevant, rather than worrying whether it fits your grid.

Previously, people would archive posts, delete them or even upload them again just to maintain the perfect layout. Thankfully, those days are (hopefully) behind us.

Does It Change the Way You Should Create Content?

Not really.

A well-designed profile is great, but good content will always matter more than a perfectly organised grid.

The accounts that perform best are still the ones creating content people want to watch, save, share and engage with.

Think of this update as a bonus rather than a strategy.

Use it to showcase your strongest content, improve the visitor experience and make your profile feel more intentional, but don't let aesthetics become more important than consistency.

Final Thoughts

Credit where it's due... Instagram actually got this one right.

Unlike some of the platform's recent updates, this solves a genuine frustration without changing how people use Instagram day to day.

If you haven't already, update your app and have a play around with it. You might be surprised how much difference a simple rearrange can make to your profile.

Now excuse me while I spend far longer than I'd like to admit reorganising my own grid.
